Blue Faery's mission is to prevent, treat and cure primary liver cancer, specifically Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), through research, education and advocacy.

Blue Faery was founded in honor of 15-year-old Adrienne Wilson, who lost her battle with HCC after only 147 days. Read Adrienne's Story.

World Hepatitis Day

28 July 2014

Viral hepatitis is the world's eighth biggest killer yet it is largely ignored. Therefore, the World Health Organization made World Hepatitis Day one of only four official disease-specific world health days. The goal of the day is to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, gain access to more treatment and better prevention programs and encourage government involvement.

Blue Faery lobbies to prevent liver cancer

4 June 2014

Once again, President and Founder Andrea Wilson joined Caring Ambassadors Executive Director Lorren Sandt on Capitol Hill to lobby for the Viral Hepatitis Testing Act. This bill would change the Public Health Service Act "to revise and extend the program for viral hepatitis surveillance, education and testing in order to prevent deaths from chronic liver diseases and liver cancer." The passage of this bill would ensure that all Baby Boomers would be tested for Hepatitis C, a recommendation made by the CDC more than a year ago in order to stop the rise of liver cancer in the United States.

National Hepatitis Testing Day

19 May 2014

The best way to prevent primary liver cancer is to stop hepatitis B and C, the most common causes of the disease. Find your hepatitis testing site on the third national Hepatitis Testing Day on May 19, 2014. People at risk can be tested and health care providers can educate patients about chronic viral hepatitis and testing. Millions of Americans have chronic hepatitis; most of them do not know they are infected.

National Hepatitis Testing Day in the United States is part of an educational initiative of CDC's Division of Viral Hepatitis and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' Combating the Silent Epidemic of Viral Hepatitis: Action Plan for the Prevention, Care & Treatment of Viral Hepatitis, Updated 2014-2016.

Liver cancer killed my 15-year-old sister
An article for the Hepatitis B Foundation written by Blue Faery Founder Andrea J. Wilson
May 2014

My life as a parent started in 1994 when my eight-year-old sister Adrienne visited me for Christmas. Adrienne’s two-week vacation became permanent when our mother told me she was ill, tired and no longer capable of being a mother. At 22-years-old, I had little money or job stability, but it never occurred to me to say no.

The initial years were challenging for both of us, as we struggled to define our new relationship. The rules were that I was her parent first, then her sister and eventually her friend.

Blue Faery goes to Washington

6 November 2013

Blue Faery participated in the Liver Cancer Roundtable — the first ever national discussion about liver cancer. Organized by the Caring Ambassadors Program, the Liver Cancer Roundtable brought together leading experts including hepatologists, transplant surgeons and oncologists; government employees from CDC, NIH and HHS; pharmaceutical company representatives; and charities in order to create a liver cancer action plan. As the only nonprofit in the United States solely devoted to fighting liver cancer, Blue Faery was invited to give our perspective about the disease.
