A topoisomerase I inhibitor anticancer drug, irinotecan hydrochloride is an alkoloid extract. Irinotecan hydrochloride was investigated as CPT-11 and is administered intravenously. Chemically, it is (4S)-4,11-diethyl-4-hydroxy-9-[(4- piperi-dinopiperidino)carbonyloxy]-1H-pyrano[3′, 4′: 6,7] indolizino[1,2-b] quinoline-3,14(4H, 12H) dione hydrochloride trihydrate with the empirical formula: C33H38N4O6oHClo3H2O. Side effects can include: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, mouth sores, hair loss, and dizziness.
